Severn Sailing Club

A Photographic History

Over the next few weeks we hope to build up a photographic history of SSC. However we need your help. We need to know anything about the images featured to help us attach a comprehensive caption. To start the collection off, here are three images taken before the club building was built.

If you also have any tales about the club's history, we would love to feature them here on the website.

Severn Sailing Club: A club History

Nick Bridges and Dolphin

Nick Bridges, a member of Severn Sailing Club for many years, is currently taking part in the Jester Azores Challenge. Information about the race can be found here

Jester Azores Challenge

Update

"I received a mobile phone text message from Nick Bridges on Sunday (15th
June) to let me know that he had reached Terceira in the Azores on the
afternoon of Friday 13th, after a 13-day passage of "hard sailing" - not sure
exactly what he means by that, but I'll find out in due course!

In his message Nick said that he was 8th out of 45 - I don't know if that's his position 'on
the water' or whether it's based on a corrected time for his handicap." [Having
just looked at the website Nick is listed as having finished 8th so presumably
there's no handicapping. You can find the list of finishers from here

I received another update from Nick, again by mobile phone text message, on Thursday
(16 July); in his message Nick says:

"Got to Scilly yesterday [15th] after hard sail back, bad weather all the way, lost
rudder 500 miles out."

SSC Podcasts

As an experiment we have included as part of the website an to the current newsletter. This means you can now hear the current newsletter in Audio form.

The plan for this extra facility, besides provide an audio version of the newsletter, is to interview older members and capture for posterity tales and annacdotes from the past.

We also plan to capture sounds of the sailing club for all those who long to be at the club butare stuck in the office.

You will need Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox to receive the rss feed. When you put the web address into your browser you will see this icon rss logo next to the url. Click on it and it will create a live bookmark. All available podcasts will now show.

This facility will develop over time with other members contributing to the podcasts.

Remember, the sounds from SSC are very much a part of the memories of members who have moved away. If people can download birdsong to play in the office, we can have halyards tapping on masts!

You can also download the podcasts to i tunes logo using this link. Copy and Paste the url into i tunes.
